Man pondering on lake

Christmas is now just around the corner. Whilst so many people are rushing to prepare for this occasion, I wonder how many will take the time to stop, relax and appreciate what they have? Many of us are planning to spend time with our families and friends, but will we take a moment to simply appreciate all the good people and positive aspects of our lives? I hope that everyone will be able to take a moment to reflect on the blessings this year has brought them.

For my business, as projects began winding down for the year, I like to reflect briefly on the events and achievements of the past year. We hear of how many businesses have struggled to survive the poor economic environment, and of the continued uncertainty in the building and construction industry. At times the road ahead seems very difficult, almost impossible, yet with continued effort and support, we have managed to survive. Through every journey in our lives or businesses we should ask ourselves “what have I learnt?”  Sometimes you don’t realise just how much you have learnt, and sometimes in quiet a short space of time.

This year my experience has made me appreciate all opportunities big or small, and to appreciate having good people as staff.  I have realised that just when you thought you had adapted to change, you can still adapt further to the changing market, downsizing or restructuring where possible, and always seeking new opportunities.  I have learnt to appreciate the relationships we hold with existing clients and the importance of building new ones. At the same time, I have not forgotten to hold on to the vision for my business and to look for the positive messages that will help drive you forward.

As we see the year draw to an end I am pleased to see Queensland’s property market is continuing to grow stronger, and I look forward to the year ahead. It is positive to see that for buyers and mortgage holders alike, the interest rates have fallen even lower and to know that they are likely to drop even further in the first quarter in the early New Year. We hope that this will help the economy improve going into 2013.

I hope you all have a safe and Happy Christmas, and a prosperous New Year!
